I decided to devote one more post on vouchers as I have seen lies on both sides flying back and forth. One of the most frustrating things I have seen is some very disingenuous pro-voucher comments. One moment the ads, blogs, or fliers are trying to convince people that the vouchers will not take money away from public schools and then the next moment they are railing on the public schools system for taking away freedom and stating that this is a start in eventually completely privatizing education. It is happening all over. If the true intent of someone who is pro-voucher is that they don’t believe that there should be public schools, then don’t try to argue that the vouchers will not hurt public schools. It is disingenuous and you are just trying to hug someone while stabbing them in the back. I have even read several people that have said vouchers are a “start in the right direction”, meaning the removal of public schools. And that is what I feel people are looking for, gain a foot hold to eventually reduce the size of the public school system. That is their prerogative to do this, but they aren’t saying this publicly. A lot of bad organizations use these tactics now and in the past, and I doubt either side wants to be associated with these tactics. Lets just be honest about what we want and not feed people lines that make them feel good and gains their vote.
All this being said, both sides are just ridiculous. I think every ad starts with “Don’t believe the lies”. In the end they are pounding the same points over and over and in my opinion neither side are talking about the true issues behind this. Something like 6 million has been spent on both sides. The first year of vouchers will be approximately 15 million dollars. If that doesn’t make you crazy….
